The Wheel and the Way Intermission 5 - The Flower That Blooms in Winter

An excerpt from the journal of Vgeral, third regent of Kor en Atesh.
We were fools for having hope, fools for expecting a future. The first daughter of our blood relit old flames in our hearts, but monsters are ever called monsters for reasons beyond themselves. No one has ever been kind to those they didn’t understand, and most are crueler still to those who don’t want to be understood. This place, though, it was our home, and tears flowed freely when it was taken from us. Flames rise from those ashes, though. There are always monsters in the dark.
